Here are the highlights of Grace Park Maxim magazine interview and please watch the Korean Girls – Grace Park video shoot below as well.
Where you’ve seen her:
As the finest alien in the new Battlestar Galactica series.
Queen of the jungle:
“I had to do this one sex scene for Battlestar that wasn’ a bedroom scene. It was outside in a forest under a lightning-and-thunder shower. I was like, so you want some crazy forest sex? OK, I gotcha. In the end, they had to totally edit it down and take out all my moaning.”
Viva ass Vegas:
“It was in Vegas on New Year’s on the strip. It’s packed with 2000 people on the street. Someone grabbed my ass, and I whipped around and there were 10 people. I picked one guy and I fuckin’ reamed him! I scared the shit out of this guy. It was the wrong guy, but I didn’t care…”
Amazing Grace:
“The craziest thing I did on a date was probably cutting through the lobby of the Wickaninnish Inn buck naked except for a yellow rain jacket and rubber boots, stripping down, and jumping into the ocean right in front of the hotel. Mind you, it was October and we were in Canada. Not only was it freezing. It was night and we couldn’t see our clothes.”

The Battlestar Babes: Tricia Helfer and Korean-Canadian hottie Grace Park Set Phasers to Sexy
When SyFy (sup with the new spelling, fellas?) announced the two-hour movie, Battlestar Galactica: The Plan, a prequel-ish take from the Cylon’s point of view, we practically fraked ourselves—Tricia and Grace are gracing our flat-screens for two more precious hours. Is providing you with the sexiest photos ever the best way to send off a series that transformed geek to chic? Yes, and so say we all.
Since the new Battlestar movie is coming to DVD before TV, can we expect some R-rated action?
Tricia Helfer: There will certainly be a lot more explicit action on the DVD. And I refuse to have a body double, so you will see a little bit of skin from me as the Six character. There’s also a new character you’ll see in some very intense sex scenes.
Grace Park: Yeah, there’s going to be a T & A version. Though maybe I should say T, C & A, because it’s not just girls this time…

Kang Su Yeon

Korean Girls: Kang Su Yeon a South Korean actress who was born on 18 August 1966 currently posed for Maxim Korea October 2009. She was one of the best known and internationally acclaimed stars from South Korea from the mid-eighties to the end of the nineties. Three of her best films: “The Surrogate Woman” (Im Kwon-taek, 1986, for which she received a Best Actress prize in Venice) “Aje, Aje Para Aje” (also by Im Kwontaek, 1989) and “Road to the Racetrack” (Jang Sun-woo, 1991)

Kang Su Yeon

Korean Girls Kang Su Yeon
From the mid-eighties until the end of the nineties, Kang Su Yeon ranked as the best internationally known film star from Korea. After making her debut as a child actor in the 1970s, Kang Su Yeon continued to appear in a variety of low-profile films until her breakthrough with Im Kwon-taek’s Surrogate Mother (1986). Her spirited performance in this film led the jury at the 1987 Venice International Film Festival to honor her with a Best Actress award, the first (and only) time a Korean actor had won such an award at one of the “big three” major international festivals. Two years later she would add to her prestige by also winning Best Actress at the Moscow International Film Festival for Im’s Buddhist-themed feature Come, Come, Come Upward (“Aje Aje Para Aje”).
At the same time, Kang Su Yeon won over younger fans with her appearance in Lee Kyu Hyung’s hit film Mimi and Chul Soo’s Adolescent Sketch, in which she played opposite Park Joong Hoon. Over the coming years she would appear in a mixture of popular features and works by the leading directors of the so-called Korean New Wave. Her best known films from the 1990s were Jang Sun Woo’s acclaimed Road to the Racetrack; box office hit That Woman, That Man by Kim Ui Seok; Lee Myung Se’s intense look at adultery Their Last Love Affair (1996); and Im Sang Soo’s debut film Girls Night Out (1998).
In all, Kang has acted in over 30 films. From 2001-2002, she also starred in an hugely popular 150-episode TV drama on SBS TV called Ladies in the Palace (“Yeo In Cheon Ha”), which gave her new visibility among mainstream viewers.

Kang Su Yeon: An interview

How did you became an actress?
I didn’t choose to become an actress… I was chosen, really. I was spotted in the street at the age of four. The first words I said, I almost said them in front of a camera!
So you were already a famous actress when you did “The Surrogate Woman?”
Yes, but it’s the first film that really traveled outside the country.
That’s also the performance you are the most known for abroad. What made you decide to play Ongnyo in that film? It’s not an easy part…
That film occurs in a period of time that I haven’t been through, of course . But families’ preference for boys over girls is still a very deep-rooted and actual issue today – it’s like a religion! So even though I was a young girl from the 20th century, I could very much relate to what the film was saying and to the character, because to me it was a contemporary issue . That’s why I decided not to play it the way people usually portray characters from the past. With director Im Kwon-taek we tried to erase every stereotype of “historical dramas” and make it a modern film, while respecting the context. It was a very difficult shooting because the budget was very low, and I had a few difficult scenes to do, too.
Once I compared you to a ballerina in that movie…
Yes… well as an actress I think it’s important to express your character not only through the dialogues, but also with the expression in your eyes and your whole body. It’s true for every character I’ve played. For example, in “The Surrogate Woman ” there is a scene where I’m locked in a very small room. Ongnyo is from the countryside and is not used to being locked in. There was no precise indication of what I had to do to express that feeling in the script. So I talked to Im Kwon-taek and I said, “I’m just going to run!” I stretched my limbs and ran around the room, and when I got tired he said, “Cut!”
It’s a great scene! Did people notice the feminist aspect of that movie when it was released in Korea ?
Not really. The liberation of Korean women is not as advanced as in Europe or North America, and people only saw this movie as a traditional “costume drama.” It’s an aspect of the film that people noticed abroad in different festivals where the film was shown. That’s why it is important for movies to travel…
At the time this film and some of your other films were made, there were a number of young directors making illegal movies on campuses, like the “Changsan Kotmae” collective. Were you aware of that?
Yes, I was aware of it. It was the time of the military regime, and movies were censored just like literature and the media. These young directors organized the resistance. Even though I was working in the mainstream industry, I knew their films and I supported them. Today’s situation has been made possible thanks to their fight against the system. Some of them then became mainstream directors, and I worked with some of them, like Jang Sun Woo.
If you look at it from an exterior point of view, it may look like the story of a group of people who exploded into different individuals. It’s not that simple. Of course, they have changed because the times have changed, but the way they work is still the same. Jang Sun Woo’s “Lies,” for instance, is manifest against the Korean system. It’s still difficult to denounce lies in Korea . It would have been impossible to make this film in the 80′s. I enjoyed working with Jang Sun Woo on “Road to the Racetrack,” but I also continue working with people like Im Kwon Taek and in mainstream films. I don’t think any one aspect of my work is more important than the other. I want to do both.
Have you ever become involved in a film for political or social reasons?
No. I hate politics, or at least I hate the word “politics. “Of course when I choose to be in a movie, my choice always involves issues that are more or less political, it’s beyond my control. But if you take a film like “Road to the Racetrack,” for example, you can see it as a film on the social changes in the 80′s, or as a comedy, or even as a mysterious thriller. People make films, but people who go see the film also make the film by the way they receive it. It’s true not only in the movies I make but in my private life too: as I’m a public figure, I’m also responsible for the image that I give to people even when I’m not acting. It means that my image as a private person is part of my job as an actress.
In Korea many stars come and go. How can you last so long in the Korean film business as a star?
Korea is a small country, so the market is small too. Especially when you consider that 90% of the films we make are made for the teen audience. We don’t produce that many films and our movies are not so diversified, so the roles an actor can get are sometimes limited, and people can get bored by an actor very quickly. In that context one can become famous in one day and disappear the next. I don’t think people abroad realize how difficult it is to be a lasting star in Korea. I think we should make films for a more diverse audience and work on even more genres than we do. As far as I’m concerned, unfortunately I don’t have any trick. All I can say is that I do my best in every movie I do. I try not only to be involved as an actress, but to work on the whole filmmaking process to help make the best film possible.
Korea more than any other country has often portrayed woman characters, and not always in a happy way. How do you explain that?
That’s because we love melodramas. Women have gone through so much pain in our history that they make good melodrama figures! On film, some people have even made the situation worse than it actually was. Also I must say that abroad, some aspects of this have been misunderstood sometimes.
In “Aje, Aje Para Aje,” for example, my character is raped and then marries the man who raped her. Of course from a feminist point of view, it’s kind of shocking, but it’s a Buddhist film that you must view from a religious perspective. It’s a film about the Buddhist concept of the “small vehicle.” The character expresses self-sacrifice through the sacrifice of her own body: she sacrifices her body to save other people. In the film you also see monks that look very virtuous and clean. On the other hand, my character may look sordid, but through her life and the things she experiences, the people that she meets – in her own way she reaches a better understanding of Buddhism… and goes “higher and higher.”
How have conditions for women changed since you started your career?
I think that people in Korea are still very conservative toward women, especially toward actresses because our life is known publicly . Today the younger generation is changing in terms of attitude and mentality. Still, it’s very difficult to exist socially if you are not married . Even though I’m an actress, I also live in this society. I’m in the same situation as many young women who are working in Korea in this period of transition. And like all these women, I can change things by doing the best work I can.

Linkin Park

Gig Watch: Linkin Park & Chris Cornell

Linkin Park Live
Backstage Footage of
Chester's Broken Wrist (Below)

Alright, alright, no need to twist my arm about it, I was skeptical. I was expecting tonight's festivities to be a mass of black-clad, under-aged, mopey nu-metallers and emos, all snapping photos of themselves for their MySpace display photo with a caption saying "OMG LINKN PARK YO!!!11!".

And apart from the photo-taking bit, I was utterly wrong: the crowd was a mixed bag from the likes of fluro-slogan tees to heavy metal band shirts.

Linkin Park have been one of the few genuinely decent bands to cross over genres and trends while keeping their fanbase.

Chris Cornell (of Soundgarden and Audioslave fame, for those uninitiated) opened the nights merrymaking to a disappointingly half-full arena.

I have to admit feeling sorry for him, this wasn't exactly his target market. There was a beach ball being thrown about the crowd that ellicted more cheer from the GA area than Cornell's entrance, which worried me. Even though the 6 guys sitting next to me left just after Cornell's set, having paid a full $100 to see him and not the headliners, I couldn't help but feel that despite his stellar success, people saw him as 'Just Another Support Act to Sit Through'.

For the fans, though, he tore his way through hits from Soundgarden (Black Hole Sun, personal headbanging favourite, Rusty Cage, and crowd- moistener Spoonman) and most recent supergroup Audioslave (Show Me How to Live and the beyond brilliant Cochise that I almost exploded waiting for).

His solo stuff was appreciated, but was nowhere near as cherished as the rock hero's classics. The  only disappointment with the Cornell set seemed to be stemming from his trademark scream (the blare that seperated him from other mumbling frontmen like Eddie Vedder and the abysmal Scott Stapp) which was not up to par. I've been refuted on this by several people who also saw the show, but I stand by my critique, gosh darn it!

The big moment arrived. Houselights dimmed, the excitement from the beach ball game now quickly dead, Linkin Park explode onto the stage with their very first hit, One Step Closer from the 2000 album "Hybrid Theory".

As the crowd sang along obediantly, singer Chester bounded about the stage like a madman: his showmanship and energy is second to none, like some delicious circus act. (I also consider the line "Shut up when I'm talking to you!" from OSC to be the new "Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me!").

I was surprised at the breadth of older material they played, having seen most long-standing acts abandon their earlier work in favour of newer music - usually off their latest album (to plug it, make sure people bought the album, blah blah blah, cash, cash, cash) - but tonight's set took me back, way back!

See, "Hybrid Theory" was the "Sgt. Pepper" of my high-school life. Before I knew of the likes of artistry I know now, I first got into music via stepping-stone bands like Good Charlotte and Korn (cringeworthy now, but before I knew of "alternative" music I was listening to Nelly and bad techno, so thank your lucky stars I found pop-punk when I did).

"Hybrid Theory" made me realise you didn't always have to sing about bitches and bling: that music could be spiritual, emotional, compelling and intense. In the same way The Beatles set a lot of people onto a journey of musical discovery, such was the influence that Linkin Park had on me. And I'm not ashamed! Loud and proud!

Anyway, Linkin Park burned through their "Hybird Theory" work like a juggernaut, sending heads banging and feet stomping and fists punching skywards with tracks Papercut, Pushing Me Away, Crawling and personal favourite Points of Authority which, I am not embarrassed to admit, sang along at full volume to. It's just too likeable!

However, half way through the set - something occured which could've ruined the show for all concerned: Chester had climbed a small flight of stairs set up on the stage to allow access to Joe Hahn (DJ) and Rob Bourdon (drums). It also added even more space for Chester to gallavant about in. But as he climbed atop the structure, his legs gave way and the screaming frontman fell flat onto the lower stage. He got up and brushed himself off with nonchalance, much to the crowd's acclamation, but a short time later he had to be excused. Mike Shinoda, Park's resident MC and Chester's hip-hop counterpart, told the crowd that Chester had broken his wrist and needed to be attended to. But, like the rock trooper he is, Chester emerged minutes later, heroically claiming, "If it's broken now, It'll still be broken in an hour". If nothing else, you can't deny the Linkin Park boys their rock balls or their willingness to entertain.
